iPhone 5 set for makeover, release delay avoids interstitial status

The only thing worse than having to wait until the fall for the iPhone 5 would have been receiving it in June only to find that it was little more than a warmed over iPhone 4 with a new number attached to it. The iPhone 5 delay, then, could be the best news possible for those looking forward to its release. After all, this buys Apple the time it needs to finish the real iPhone 5, the one with the full makeover inside and out, and not the iPhone 4S with the “iPhone 5″ name which Apple would have needed to sheepishly float out there if it had stuck to its guns and released it this summer. In other words, through the holdup, the iPhone 5 gets saved from being a mere interstitial model en route to the iPhone 6. But what does this all mean? Here’s what the iPhone 5, thanks to being held back to the fall and giving Apple time to take it all the way, could end up offering.
Slim goodbody: Remember how Apple made the iPad 2 just a bit thinner but rounded down the edges which made it feel incredibly sleeker than the original? Apple could do the same with the iPhone 5, grinding down the thickly squared bezeled sides of the iPhone 4 in favor of a model which feels svelter in your hand.
4G era: You know that 4G LTE technology which Verizon and AT&T keep touting but neither carrier can manage to roll out in more than a handful of locations? 4G may not be the reason the iPhone 5 is being held up, but the delay could increase the odds that Apple ultimately includes 4G in the iPhone 5 when the time comes. After all, by then, more than a few random city blocks may actually have 4G LTE access.
iOS 5: Half of what made the iPhone 4 the iPhone 4 was what the accompanying iOS 4 brought with it. As it  stands, iOS 5 apparently isn’t coming til the fall. With the iPhone 5 looking like it’ll arrive in the same delayed timeframe, that means iPhone 5 users won’t have to initially settle for being stuck running the same old iOS 4.x they had on their last iPhone. Here’s more on the iPhone5.

iPhone 5 in summer/fall says AT&T, white iPhone 4 thicker admits Apple

Want to know the iPhone 5 release date or the real story on the thickness of the white iPhone 4? Ask local retail store employees from Apple and AT&T and you’ll get surprisingly frank answers, although the accuracy of those answers may be suspect at best. In my attempts to replace my black iPhone 4 with a white one today, I visited an Apple Store and then, after it turned out the place was all out of AT&T white iPhone 4 models, an AT&T Store. They were both in the Los Angeles area, but I won’t say which stores specifically so as not to get these low level employees in trouble for what they said. First, it was the very real revelation about the white iPhone 4 from an Apple employee, and then it was a rather odd claim about the iPhone 5 from an AT&T employee. Let’s talk white iPhone 4 first.
With all the various claims out there that the white iPhone 4 is a tiny fraction thicker than the black iPhone 4, I wanted confirmation before I bought one. My concern was that as I frequently use a third party battery case when leaving the house for extended periods of time (Beatweek’s 2010 iPhone battery case of the year, the Mophie Juice Pack 4, if you’re wondering). In short, if the white iPhone 4 was too thick to fit into my favorite  battery case, I didn’t want it. After all, if I’m going to make as shallow of a move as to replace one iPhone 4 with another iPhone 4 purely for color reasons, I should at least first make sure I’m not going to screw myself out of being able to use one of my most-often used accessories. The white iPhone 4 display units at the Apple Store are tethered for security reasons, which meant I couldn’t use one of them to make sure it still fit into my battery case. But one employee who was brave enough to admit to me that the white iPhone 4 is in fact thicker than the black model, was kind enough to track down a loose white iPhone 4 within the store. Upon testing it with my battery case we found that it did fit, but just barely. If nothing else this puts to bed the fact that the white iPhone 4 is in fact thicker than the black, and again, just barely. That supposed Twitter direct message from Phil Schiller about them both being the same thickness is, even if it’s really from him, simply not accurate. In any case the store was sold out of the white iPhone 4 model I wanted, so I left empty handed, but knowing for sure that I wanted one. On the way home I passed and AT&T Store and stopped in to take a crapshoot as to whether they might have the one I wanted in stock. They did. But then the iPhone 5 oddly became part of the conversation, and not because I brought it up.
By buying a white iPhone 4 now, most folks are setting themselves up to have to pay more for the iPhone 5 when it arrives, thanks to the magic of upgrade pricing. While it’s not worth explaining here, my situation is different. But the AT&T Store employee who was selling me a white iPhone 4 to replace my black iPhone 4 must have felt sorry for what he thought I was about to do to myself, and said something along the lines of “You know there’s another new iPhone coming in the summer or the fall, right?” He didn’t say “iPhone 5″ but   he didn’t have to. Here’s the odd part: there’s no way he had any official information as to Apple’s super-secret plans regarding when it’ll release the iPhone 5. He was probably just repeating back what he’d read online. But why on earth was an AT&T employee trying to talk me into waiting for the iPhone 5? Like I said, I probably just caught him off guard when he saw me replacing one iPhone 4 with another iPhone 4, and he was trying to be more helpful than his employers would likely prefer. The truly odd part is that he seemed to think, for whatever presumed reason, that the iPhone 5 might still come this summer despite the fact that summer is six weeks from now and the white iPhone 4 just went on sale. Like I said, I guarantee this guy has no official inside information about the iPhone 5. Just as the guy at the Apple Store probably didn’t really know for sure that the white iPhone 4 is thicker than the black model until I helped him prove it before his own eyes, but he’d heard enough already to assume it was true. But it’s all worth sharing nonetheless, if only to gain perspective on how the low-level employees on the inside of the food chain are viewing all of this. Here’s more on the white iPhone 4 and iPhone5.

Apple Likely to Integrate iCloud for the iPhone 5

Apple has been rumored to move from its current online file storage provider, MobileMe, to iCloud, which has recently been renamed to CloudMe. The overhauling of this internet service that started as iTools and renamed in 2008 together with the release of the then- launched iPhone 3G is said to unfold together with the release of the rumored next generation of iPhone, the Apple iPhone5. The iPhone 5 will be released with the much talked about operating system, the iOS 5. The beta version of the iCloud service is also said to be prepped up for the operating system for the Apple Macbooks, the Mac OS X Lion.
Sources say that Apple has purchased the domain name iCloud.com for $4.5 million from the Sweddish company, Xcerion who is responsible for creating iCloud. iCloud, on the other hand, was just rebranded as CloudMe with the company purchasing the domain name CloudMe.com.
News and rumors has it that Apple’s rumored iCloud service is focused on music streaming and downloads with Apple recently closing a deal with at least two major record labels to allow the company to stream and distribute copyrighted materials to users and subscribers.

Apple’s current MobileMe service which costs $99 annually offers users with 20 GB of virtual file storage memory for music which you can access from anywhere in the world using different devices, such as iPad, desktop or laptop computers and smart phones. But reporters and Apple close- watchers suggest that there are strong evidences pointing to the company’s efforts to broaden the scope of their storage, with hopes that the service will become an online diary and locker where users can store their precious moments such as videos, pictures and music files.
Apple is also said to be overheard stating that they might make the MobileMe service- which will eventually be known as iCloud- free for its users. This strategy would lead to sky- rocket sales and convince more consumers to take a hold of their hardware devices. This plan would lead to more intrigues and speculations about Apple’s need to upgrade the amount of memory storage that they have on their iPhones and other devices.
By fall of this year, we’ll get to see the revamped and renamed internet cloud service from Apple- that, if rumors about the September release of the iPhone 5 are true.

Verizon CFO confirms iPhone 5 will be Dual Network

Verizon finally gave us some real information announcing they have sold 2.2million iPhones in their 2011 First Quarter Sales Report.
We also got huge details about the iPhone5. A Verizon CFO let slip that the iPhone 5 will be a “Global Device”, meaning it will work with both Verizon and AT&T. There was rumors circulating already, but now it’s confirmed.
Verizon crushed Wall Street expectations with $3.26 billion in profit with revenue reaching nearly $27 billion. Revenue is up 10% from last year. Revenue is expected to increase as 4G smartphones are becoming much more readily available. Wireline (non-wireless) revenue was down 2.22% from last year. Verizon’s first batch of the new 4G phone, the HTC Thunderbolt sold 260,000 phones. While this is a good number, it’s nowhere near the sales of the iPhone.
